WHO IS EDDIE PATTERSON?
Eddie plays a role in each of my Oxley Crossing romances. She is one of my favourite characters, and my readers have also expressed interest in her.
In fact, in Book 2, Saving Jonathon Armitage, Edith Turner as she was then, was so invested in Megan's romance with Jonathon, she and Mike Patterson threatened to take over the story. It seemed a natural progression to give them a romance of their own, and in the end they beat Megan and Jon to the altar.
Eddie began life in the New England Tableland town of Armidale, where her father, Charles Newman, taught English in one of the local high schools. He instilled in his daughter his love of the English language, and she became a librarian when she grew up. In Marrying Alan Morgan, she joins a creative writing group begun by Ben Wright, and wins a prize in a short story competition.
Little Edith Newman married Stan Turner, who accepted a position on the Oxley Crossing Shire Council. It was a happy marriage, although both were saddened by their inability to have children. Eddie filled her spare time working for the community, joining a number of different organisations from the County Women's Association to Tidy Towns, becoming a go-to person in The Crossing. She became even more deeply involved after Stan's early death.
Eddie loves to see young people finding happiness through loving marriages, and became renowned as a matchmaker, always willing to help young lovers achieve their Happy Ever After.
I look forward to seeing what Eddie gets up to in future Oxley Crossing romances.
